Gov. William Drummond's Executive Council

Dates: 1664 to 1667

Location Met: Unknown

Virtually nothing is known about the Executive Council under Governor William Drummond. There are no known extant copies of the Lords Proprietors' instructions or commission to William Drummond, but later documentation mentioned that he was authorized to appoint six men to serve as his Executive Council.

In a letter, dated December 3, 1664, the Lords Proprietors named Peter Carteret as one of their Councillors for Albemarle County, and he landed in the colony on February 23, 1665, also with the titles of Assistant Governor and Secretary of the colony. This is the only Executive Council member's name known for this administration, and there are no extant records of their meetings.
