Gov. William Sayle's Executive Council

Dates: 1670 to 1671

Location Met: Charles Town

Virtually nothing is known about the Executive Council under Governor William Sayle. There are no known extant copies of the Lords Proprietors' instructions or commission to William Sayle, but later documentation mentioned that he was authorized to appoint six men to serve as his Executive Council.

It is known that Joseph West was a Deputy to George Monck, Duke of Albemarle, and he was among the first members of the "Grand Council", herein referred to as the Executive Council, under Governor William Sayle. It is also known that William Scrivener was a Deputy of John, Lord Berkeley and also a member of this first Executive Council.
