Of Joseph West, Lord Anthony Ashley Cooper, Earl of Shaftesbury
spoke in high terms, and presently added to his offices of storekeeper
and deputy that of register or secretary. As the reports came

In 1674 they made West a Landgrave and appointed
him Governor of Charles Town.
