Carolina Lords Proprietors

Sir George Carteret, 1st Baronet Carteret

Sir George Carteret, 1st Baronet Carteret (July 1667 - September 22, 1695) was the son of Sir Philip Carteret (1641-1672) and the grandson of Sir George Carteret, Baronet, one of the original Lords Proprietors of Carolina. Since his father died before his grandfather, he inherited his grandfather's share of Carolina upon his death in 1680.

Sir George Carteret, 1st Baronet Carteret married Lady Grace Granville (daughter of John Granville, 1st Earl of Bath and created Countess Granville in 1715), and by her was the father of John Carteret, 2nd Earl Granville. He was ennobled as Baron Carteret of Hawnes in 1681 in recognition of his grandfather's career. With Lady Grace, they had a son John, who succeeded him, a son Philip, and a daughter Jemima, both who died unmarried.

Having died quite young at the age of twenty-six (26), his share of Carolina was inherited by his son, John Carteret, 2nd Baronet Carteret, 2nd Earl of Granville, in 1695.
