| Anson County decreased in size from 1753 when Rowan County was created, in 1762 when Mecklenburg County was created, in 1779 when Montgomery County and Richmond County were created, and again in 1842 when Union County was created. Its population grew from 5,133 in 1790 to 25,275 in 2000.
