Evolution of Boundaries - With Known Towns & Villages

New Hanover County decreased in size in 1734 when Onslow County and Bladen County were created; in 1750 when Duplin County was created; in 1764 when Brunswick County was created; in 1847 when it ceded some land to Sampson County; and again in 1875 when Pender County was created.

Its population grew from 6,831 in 1790 to 202,667 in 2000.
