Evolution of Boundaries - With Known Towns & Villages

New Hanover County decreased in size in 1731 when Onslow County was created, in 1734 when Bladen County was created, in 1750 when Duplin County was created, in 1764 when Brunswick County was created, in 1847 when it ceded some land to Sampson County, and again in 1875 when Pender County was created. Its population grew from 6,831 in 1790 to 160,627 in 2000.
