Evolution of Boundaries - With Known Towns & Villages

Orange County decreased in size in 1771 when it ceded land for the creation of Chatham County, Guilford County, and part of Wake County; in 1777 when Caswell County was created; in 1849 when Alamance County was created; and again in 1881 when Durham County was created.

Its population grew from 12,216 in 1790 to 133,801 in 2010.
