An Act to Incorporate Conetoe Academy in Edgecombe County.

1835 - Chapter XXXIV

Acts Passed by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina 1835 - Pages 62-63.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That William Thigpen, William C. Leigh, Eaton Cobb, John Cobb, Frederick Jones and John H. Daniel, and their successors in office, be, and they are hereby declared a body politic and corporate, to be known and distinguished by the name, of the "Trustees of Conetoe Academy," and by that name, shall have perpertual succession and a common seal, and shall be able and capable in law of holding lands and tenements sufficient for the purposes of the school, and of suing, and being sued, plead, and be impleaded.

II. Be it further enacted, That the said corporation shall have power to make all rules and regulations and bye-laws, not inconsistent with the constitution and laws of the land, which shall.and may be necessary for the good government of the said school and the management of its property and finances, and also to fill all vacancies among ths Trustees from time to time occasioned by death, resignation or other cause; and also to appoint such officers as they may think proper.

this 22d day of December, 1835.
