Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That James M. Gentry, E. C. Bartlet, James Wagg, N. H. Waugh, David Smith, James W. Hardin and David Worth, and their successors, be and they are hereby constituted a body politic and corporate, to be known and designated by the name and style of "The Trustees of the Jefferson Academy," and by that name shall have succession and a common seal, and shall sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded in any court of law or equity in this State, and shall have direction and control of the property real and personal, belonging to said academy, or which may be held in trust by any person for the benefit of said academy, and shall be capable in law to hold lands, tenements and chattels sufficient for the purposes of said academy. Sec. 2. Be it further enacted, That the said corporation shall have power to make such rules, regulations and orders concerning the management of the property, the employment of teachers, and all other things as may be necessary to the good government and success of said academy, and shall have all rights, powers and privileges of like corporations in this State, and no other. Sec. 3. Be it further enacted, That a majority of said trustees shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. Sec. 4.
