On 9/9/1775, Ebenezer Folsome was commissioned as a Captain under Col. Thomas Rutherford in the Cumberland County Regiment of Militia. Capt. Ebenezer Folsome led his company in a ferocious attack on the rear position of the Loyalists at the battle of Moore's Creek Bridge on 2/27/1776 - an attack that many accounts claim decided the Patriot's victory on that day.

On 4/22/1776, Ebenezer Folsome was commissioned as a Lt. Colonel under Col. Alexander McAllister in the Cumberland County Regiment of Militia.

On or around 5/7/1776, Ebenezer Folsome was commissioned as Colonel/Commandant over the Cumberland County Regiment of Militia, after Col. Alexander McAllister resigned on that date.

In July of 1776, Col. Ebenezer Folsome was given command of a special group of militia companies assembled from all across the state to help quell a Loyalist uprising in Cross Creek as a British fleet was approaching Charlestown, SC.

On 12/6/1776, Col. Ebenezer Folsome was forced to resign his command due to being absent so much and neglecting his duty.
