* Note there were two Captains of NC Militia named Joseph Martin. It is entirely possible that they were the same man, but with different sources it is difficult to ascertain with any certainty.

This man was from Surry County.

The other Capt. Joseph Martin was first in the VA Militia, then in the Washington County Regiment. In 1779, he was made a Lt. Colonel.
