The American Revolution in North Carolina

<<<<

The NC General Assembly again convened in Hillsborough, this year from April 18th to May 17th. As one of the few states whose population actually increased during the long Revolutionary War, the General Assembly again deemed it appropriate to establish two (2) new counties west of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In May of 1783, they created Greene County and Davidson County, and soon these new counties fielded their own Regiments of Militia.

There are now 52 counties with 53 Regiments of Militia formed into seven (7) Brigades of Militia across the state.

By now, all NC Continentals have been furloughed, and were subject to possible recall. But, they were never called back into active service.

On September 3rd, the final Treaty of Paris is signed and the American Revolution is officially over.
