| By the end of the Royal Period, the center of the colony was a major hub for interstate and intrastate transportation. The map below (circa 1765) clearly shows that many significant roads criss-crossed North Carolina from the Cape Fear region all the way to Fort Dobbs along the western frontier at the time. |
