![]() Burgaw was named after a group of Indians that resided along a creek in western Pender County, NC. Burgaw grew from a Wilmington & Weldon Train Depot and was incorporated in 1879. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The county seat of Pender County, Burgaw is located twenty-five miles north of Wilmington, just off I-40. Downtown Burgaw has the amenities required when traveling for business or leisure. Burgaw surrounds you with that nearly forgotten "small-town charm," with good, old-fashioned Southern hospitality. The business community consists of warm and friendly retail merchants and an industrial community that boasts some of the Cape Fear areas best corporate partners. Together they combine to offer a full range of services o the community. Growth is in the near future for Burgaw and the town's goal is to allow for the growth while preserving the essence that makes Burgaw, North Carolina so unique. Come to Burgaw for a slower pace, stroll among the 100 year old oaks surrounding the court house square have a seat on one of the parks benches and enjoy peace and quite. Visit the Antique mall, walk into Harrell's Department Store, also over a 100 years old. You may see a lot of things that look familiar, Burgaw has been the backdrop for a lot of movies. If you get thirsty drop into Dees Drug Store and enjoy a lemonade at the old fashion soda fountain. Turn right at the corner and walk to the Old Depot the oldest in North Carolina and home of our local arts council. Short distance to the Northwest is the first brick build in Burgaw and home of our museum. |
