North Carolina Railroads - 1850

Railroads already operational prior to 1841:

+ Petersburg Railroad. Operational in 1833.
+ Portsmouth & Roanoke Railroad. Operational in 1835. 1846, renamed to the Seaboard & Roanoke Railroad.
+ Greensville & Roanoke Railroad. Operational in 1840.
+ Halifax & Weldon Railroad. Operational in 1836.
+ Wilmington & Raleigh Railroad. Operational in 1840.
+ Raleigh & Gaston Railroad. Operational in 1840. 

Railroads completed between 1841 and 1850:

+ 1849 - Wilmington & Raleigh Railroad - Tarborough Branch

The following railroads were chartered between 1841 and 1850, but were not operational as yet (1850):

+ 1846 - Charlotte & Columbia Rail Road. 1846, renamed to Charlotte & South Carolina Rail Road.
+ 1846 - Charlotte & South Carolina Rail Road.
+ 1847 - Wilmington & Manchester Rail Road.
+ 1847 - Roanoke Rail Road. 1849, merged into the Seaboard & Roanoke Rail Road.
+ 1849 - North Carolina Rail Road.

The following railroad company was chartered between 1841 and 1850, but there is no evidence available that it was ever constructed:

+ 1847 - North & South Carolina Rail Road (1st incarnation did not materialize)
