*1906 acquired by Asheville Rapid Transit Railroad. Asheville was reportedly the second city in the South, behind Richmond, to have developed an extensive streetcar system. This system grew until it was the fourth largest of its kind in the South. It served not only downtown Asheville and the immediately-surrounding areas, but was also constructed north to the town of Weaverville, a distance of six miles. |
