Owned and operated by Cone Mills, this railroad was chartered and negotiations concluded with Seaboard Air Line Railway to construct the line from a point - called Cliffside Junction - for three miles to the newly established mill site as well as sidings, for a total of five miles of track. Grading began in 1903, and the railroad was formally chartered in 1905. It reamined in operation until the late 1980s, when it was closed down. Most of the rails remain intact, and engine #113 is still on the premises in the engine shed, awaiting its final fate or better days. |
