| There was no actual raiload named the Dismal Swamp Railroad, per se. Several logging companies went into the Dismal Swamp area around the Dismal Swamp Canal to obtain lumber at various times in the late 1800s and early 1900s. One was the Richmond Cedar Works Railroad from 1896 to 1941 and another was the Franklin & Carolina Railroad from 1944 to 1958. | |||||
