Chartered in 1875 as a South Carolina railroad company, survey and layout was completed, but no track was ever laid and the line was never operational under this name.

In 1881, it was acquired by Cape Fear & Yadkin Valley Railroad (a North Carolina company), which completed the line to Bennettsville, SC as the Cape Fear & Yadkin Valley Railway in 1884.
