Archibald Hunter Arrington Williams returned to Granville County, NC after the U.S. Civil War and developed the Oxford & Henderson Railroad, of which he was the president.

From the 1st Annual Report of the North Carolina Railroad Commission, dated December 31, 1891:

Date of organization, May 24, 1880.

The Oxford & Henderson Railroad was opened August 16th, 1881. Leased to the Richmond & Danville Railroad Company, October 30th, 1888, for a term of 99 years.

This company was chartered by Act of the General Assembly, ratified the 25th day of March. 1871, and the charter amended by Act of the General Assembly, ratified 11th day of March, 1879. No limitation as to duration of its charter in the Act.
