Railroad was destroyed during the Civil War and was not rebuilt. This line was removed for the construction of the Piedmont Railroad in 1863, considered to be a higher priority by the Confederate government. The Raleigh & Gaston Railroad furnished the company with locomotives and apparently operated this line during the construction effort until the Roanoke Valley Railroad's engines and rolling stock was delivered. |
