An Act to Amend an Act Entitled "An Act to Fix the Salaries of the County Superintendents of Education of the Several Counties of this State," so far as Orangeburg, Lexington, Marlboro, Chesterfield, Florence, and Laurens Counties are Concerned.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, That section 1 of an Act entitled "An Act to fix the salaries of the County Superintendents of Edacation of the several counties of this State," approved February 23d, 1898, be, and the same is hereby, amended by striking out the word "five," in the thirtieth line of said section, and inserting in lieu thereof the word "six ;" and also by changing the word three, on line 28 of said section to four; and also by inserting on line 27 of said section, after the word "dollars," the following, "and for traveling expenses, one hundred dollars;" and also by inserting on line 26, between the words "Lexington" and "Laurens," the words, "fifty dollars for traveling expenses;" and also by striking out "four," and inserting "five, on line 20, between the words "county" and "hundred;" and also by inserting on line fifteen, between the words "dollars" and "Cherokee," the words, "one hundred dollars, traveling expenses, if so much be necessary;" and also by inserting on line 27, after the words "Marlboro County," "three hundred dollars, and such further sum as may be necessary to pay the actual expenses incurred in performing his official duties, not exceeding the sum of one hundred dollars: Provided, That no such account shall be approved until such County Superintendent of Education shall have furnished the County Board of Commissioners with an itemized statement under oath of the expenses so incurred." So that the said section shall read as follows:

"Section 1. That the salaries of the several Superintendents of Education of the several counties of this State shall be, and are hereby, fixed at the following sums, to be paid by the County Board of Commisisoners out of the ordinary county funds as provided by law: Abbeville County, as now provided by law; Aiken County, four hundred dollars; Anderson County, five hundred dollars; Bamberg County, _______; Barnwell County, three hundred dollars ; Beaufort County, four hundred dollars; Chester County, five hundred dollars, and one hundred dollars for traveling expenses, as now provided by law; Berkeley County, as now provided by law; Charleston County, six hundred dollars; Chesterfield County, three hundred dollars, and one hundred dollars traveling expenses, if so much be necessary; Cherokee County, two hundred dollars; Clarendon County, four hundred and fifty dollars; Colleton County, four hundred dollars; Darlington County, four hundred dollars; Dorchester County, three hundred dollars; Edgefield County, five hundred dollars; Fairfield County, as now provided by law; Florence County, six hundred dollars; Georgetown County, five hundred dollars; Greenville County, as now provided by law; Greenwood County, as now provided by law; Hampton County, four hundred dollars; Horry County, three hundred dollars; Kershaw County, as now provided by law; Lancaster County, three hundred dollars; Laurens County, four hundred dollars, and fifty for traveling expenses; Lexington County, four hundred dollars, for traveling expenses, one hundred dollars; Marion County, five hundred dollars; Marlboro County, three hundred dollars, and such further sum as may be necessary to pay the actual expenses incurred in performing his official duties, not exceeding the sum of one hundred dollars: Provided, That no such account shall be approved until such County Superintendent of Education shall have furnished the County Board of Commissioners with an itemized statement under oath of the expenses so incurred; Newberry County, six hundred dollars; Oconee County, three hundred and fifty dollars; Orangeburg County, six hundred dollars; Pickens County, three hundred dollars; Richland County, three dollars per day for each day actually employed, not to exceed three hundred days in one year; Saluda County, three hundred and fifty dollars; Spartanburg County, seven hundred dollars; Sumter County, six hundred dollars; Union County, four hundred dollars, for traveling expenses, one hundred dollars; Williamsburg County, four hundred dollars; York County, five hundred dollars, for traveling expenses, one hundred dollars: Provided, That they shall not receive exceeding three dollars per day for each day actually engaged in this work."
