Capt. James Dunlap of Col. Elijah Clarke's (GA) Regiment, along with a detail from Lt. Col. James McCall's Mounted Rifles (Upper Ninety-Six District Regiment of Militia) fought the Loyalists to a "draw." Since both leaders were named James Dunlap, hence the alternate name for this skirmish.
