![]() Patriot Capt. James McKay of the Georgia Militia, who had been waylaying supply boats on the Savannah River and at Mathews Bluff, ambushed a party of 30 Loyalists, under Lt. Kemp sent to out by Lt. Col. Thomas Brown at Augusta to intercept Capt. McKay. Lt. Kemp was routed, and lost sixteen killed and wounded. This event only happened once - some sources claim it happened on January 22, 1781, whereas just as many sources claim it happened in April of 1781. |
