After Lt. Col. Henry Lee captured twenty British at McCord's Ferry, he sent the prisoners off with Cornet George Carrington. Cornet Carrington had twelve dragoons, which were ambushed by sixty Loyalists near Orangeburgh. The Loyalists were able to free seventeen of the twenty prisoners.
