+ 1833 - Charleston & Hamburgh Railroad completed 1833
+ 1836 - Louisville, Cincinnati & Charleston Railroad chartered and acquired the Charleston & Hamburgh Railroad, which retained its name.
+ 1840 - Branchville & Columbia Railroad partially completed/opened

Railroads chartered between 1831 and 1840, but not operational as of 1840:

+ 1833 - Dockton & Wappahoola Railroad (no info available - may have been built, may not)
+ 1834 - Durham Creek Railroad (no info available - may have been built, may not)

Railroads chartered between 1831 and 1840, but no evidence they were ever constructed:

+ 1834 - Edgefield Railroad (a second charter was issued in 1855, but again no construction)
+ 1835 - Barnwell Railroad (three more charters issued: 1847, 1861, and 1898)
+ 1835 - Cincinnati & Charleston Railroad - renamed to Louisville, Cincinnati & Charleston Railroad in 1836
+ 1836 - Sumter & Darlington Railroad
+ 1838 - Metropolitan Railroad (Camden to Cheraw to NC Line)
+ 1838 - Charleston, Georgetown & All Saints Railroad
