Gov. Robert Johnson's Executive Council

Dates: 1717 to 1719

Location Met: Charles Town

On April 30, 1717, the Lords Proprietors issued a commission and instructions to the next governor of South Carolina, Robert Johnson, the son of Sir Nathaniel Johnson, former governor of South Carolina. This Author has yet to find the date he arrived and took the oaths of office and allegiance. In his instructions, the Lords Proprietors named eight members of his Executive Council:
- Alexander Skene
- Nicholas Trott
- Thomas Broughton
- Charles Hart - also Secretary
- Francis Young
- Samuel Wragg
- James Kinloch
On September 12, 1718, a letter from the Lords Proprietors identifies Francis Young as Surveyor General for South Carolina at this point in time.
On June 19, 1719, the Lords Proprietors sent a letter to Governor Robert Johnson informing him that they have appointed twelve (12) new members of his Executive Council:
- Ralph Izard
- Nicholas Trott
- Charles Hart
- Samuel Wragg
- Mr. Gibbons
- Benjamin de la Conscillere (aka Concelleri)
- William Bull
- Mr. Butler
- Peter St. Julian
- James Kinloch
- Francis Young (aka Yonge)
- Mr. Satur
On December 21, 1719, Governor Robert Johnson was deposed in a popular uprising in South Carolina against the Lords Proprietors. On this date, the people elected James Moore, Jr. as their new governor and insisted that he report directly to King George I.
This Author has not found any records of the Executive Council under Governor Robert Johnson. If any become available, summaries will be provided herein.  
Dates: 1729 to 1735

Location Met: Charles Town

One source asserts he was commissioned by the Crown as the Governor of South Carolina in December of 1729 but he did not arrive in the province until early 1731. He remained in office until his death on May 3, 1735.
William Bull is known to have served on the Executive Council from 1721 to 1737 under Governor Sir Francis Nicholson, Acting Governor Arthur Middleton, Governor Robert Johnson, and Governor Thomas Broughton.
James Kinloch of Prince George's, Winyah Parish is known to have served on the Executive Council from 1717 until his death in 1757. He served under Governor Robert Johnson twice, Governor James Moore, Governor Francis Nicholson, Acting Governor Arthur Middleton, Acting Governor Thomas Broughton, Acting Governor William Bull, Governor James Glen, and Governor William Henry Lyttleton.
This Author has not found any records of the Executive Council under Royal Governor Robert Johnson. If any become available, summaries will be provided herein.
