On Pages 1-6 of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies, Series I, Volume XXIX, Part I, is a list noting the "Summary of the Principle Events" in North Carolina between August 4, 1863 and December 31, 1863. Page 5 identifies — December 1, 1863, Skirmish at Cedar Point, NC.

At the bottom of P.1 is a footnote explaining that "Of some of the minor conflicts in this Summary no circumstantial reports are on file." In earlier volumes this is explained that the editors found mentions of minor skirmishes in some Muster Rolls, either Union or Confederate, but no official written report had been submitted or at least found by the editors.

To date, this Author has found no mention of this skirmish in any of the histories of the North Carolina troops of any type — State Troops or Militia. If information is later found, it will be added herein.
