Graham County

In the Biennial Report of the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the scholastic years of 1889 and 1890, it was reported that there was one (1) private school for white children in Graham County: Lower Stecoah School in the village of Stecoah with Williard McClellon as principal and 63 students enrolled.
On February 25, 1893, the North Carolina General Assembly passed an Act to authorize the citizens of Twenty Mile Creek in Swain County to send their children to school in the adjacent Graham County.
