| Circa 1854 or 1855, the East Bend Academy was
established in the village of East Bend in Yadkin County. In
1870, Rev. M. Baldwin was principal with two teachers and approximately
100 students enrolled. |
| On February 15, 1859, the North Carolina General
Assembly passed an Act
to incorporate the Jonesville Male and Female High Schools in
the village of Jonesville in Yadkin County. Seven (7) trustees
were named in the Act, and the schools were authorized assets
up to $400,000. |
| In 1865, the Yadkinville School was established
in the town of Yadkinville in Yadkin County. In 1870, John D.
Johnson was principal with one teacher and 25 students enrolled. |
| On March 12, 1883, the North Carolina General
Assembly passed an Act
to incorporate the Farbush Union School for colored students
in Yadkin County. Seven (7) trustees were named in the Act. |
| On March 5, 1897, the North Carolina General
Assembly passed an Act
to incorporate the Boonville Hyatte Academy in the village of
Boonville in Yadkin County. Six (6) trustees were named in the
Act. |
| On March 6, 1899, the North Carolina General
Assembly passed an Act
to incorporate the Cross-Roads Church Academy in the village
of Cross Roads Church in Yadkin County. Eight (8) trustees were
named in the Act. The village of Cross Roads Church was renamed
to Courtney in 1904. |
In the Biennial Report of the Superintendent
of Public Instruction for the scholastic years of 1899 and 1900,
it was reported that there were six (6) private schools in Yadkin
