The American Revolution in North Carolina

Colonel Samuel Campbell

Colonel Samuel Campbell was a native of Wilmington, North Carolina, and in business there as a merchant when the American Revolution began. He with others organized a company adverse to the Patriots.

In 1781, he joined Maj. James H. Craig at Wilmington, and at the evacuation of the town went with the British to Charlestown, and was then commissioned by General Leslie on November 24th, 1781, Colonel of Militia on James Island. At the evacuation of Charlestown he went to Nova Scotia and settled for a time at Shelburne.
