The American Revolution in North Carolina

Chariol De Placer

Colonel over the French Refugees Regiment - 1778

On 4/24/1778, the NC General Assembly authorized Monsieur Chariol De Placer to raise a regiment made up of displaced Frenchmen within North Carolina. He appointed at least five (5) known Captains and three (3) other officers, and they all began trying to assemble enough men from the two Carolinas and the Caribbean. By August of 1778, this regiment never materialized and it was disbanded due to lack of men.

If anyone has a decent biography of this man, please send to this Author via e-mail or snail mail, and it will be added here, with full credit given.
