James Darnell

Colonel over the Dobbs County Regiment of Militia - 1779-

In 1778, James Darnell was commissioned as an Adjutant under Col. William Caswell in the Dobbs County Regiment of Militia, and both were at the battle of Briar Creek, GA on 3/3/1779.

On 5/9/1779, William Caswell was commissioned as a Brigadier General over the New Bern District Brigade of Militia, replacing Brig. Gen. William Bryan, who resigned on 4/27/1779. Soon thereafter, James Darnell was commissioned as a Colonel in the Dobbs County Regiment of Militia, a position he retained until the end of the war (assumed, records are incomplete).
