John Spicer

Paymaster in the 2nd NC Regiment - 1776-?
Colonel in the Onslow County Regiment of Militia - 1779-1783

On 12/11/1776, John Spicer was commissioned as the Paymaster for the 2nd NC Regiment on the Continental Line. This Author has not been able to ascertain when he left this position.

During the 3Q of 1779, John Spicer was commissioned as the second Colonel, alongside Col. Henry Rhodes, in the Onslow County Regiment of Militia.

Upon the death of Col. Henry Rhodes in the 3Q of 1780, Col. John Spicer became the Colonel/Commandant over the Onslow County Regiment of Militia, a position he retained until the end of the war (assumed, records incomplete).


John Spicer was elected to represent Onslow County in the 3rd Provincial Congress in August of 1775 held in Hillsborough, to the 4th Provincial Congresses held in Halifax in April of 1776, and to the 5th Provincial Congress held in Halifax in November-December of 1776. He was elected to represent Onslow County in the NC Senate during 1783, 1785, and 1794-1800. He was also elected to represent Onslow County in the NC House of Commons during 1789, 1790, and 1792.
