Miles Harvey

Colonel over the Perquimans County Regiment of Militia - 1775-1776

On September 9, 1775, the NC Provincial Congress appointed Miles Harvey as the Colonel/Commandant over the Perquimans County Regiment of Militia. He retained this position until late 1776, when Thomas Harvey took over the regiment upon his death.

Miles Harvey was born on December 17, 1728 in Perquimans Precinct (County), North Carolina, the son of Thomas Harvey, Jr. and Elizabeth Cole. He first married Elizabeth Baker in 1747, and they had six known children - Mary, Albrighton, Augustus, Mildred, Miles Jr., and Robert. He married a second time to Elizabeth Jones on January 9, 1766, and they had two known daughters - Agatha and Lucy. Miles Harvey died on December 12, 1776 in Perquimans County, NC.

Miles Harvey was elected to the Fifith Provincial Congress of November 1776 held at Halifax, NC. Earlier, he had been a Captain of the Provincial Militia and the Clerk of Court for Perquimans County.
