Per Chapter XXXIX of the 1785 laws enacted by the North Carolina General Assembly, Richard Caswell, Jr. went to Charleston, SC in November of 1784 to acquire products "on credit" to sell upon his return to North Carolina. After completing his business in Charleston, he sailed back towards New Bern and on December 27, 1784 his ship was lost at sea. Of course, he was the son of Richard Caswell, the first governor for the state of North Carolina. If anyone has a decent biography of this man, please send to this Author via e-mail or snail mail, and it will be added here, with full credit given. |
