On September 9, 1775, the NC Provincial Congress appointed Thomas Harvey as a Major under Col. Miles Harvey in the Perquimans County Regiment of Militia.

On December 12, 1775, Col. Miles Harvey died, and Thomas Harvey was appointed to take his place as the Colonel/Commandant over the Perquimans County Regiment of Militia. Available records indicate that he retained this position until the end of the war in 1783.

Thomas Harvey was born in 1746 in Perquimans County, NC. He married Mary Blount on April 28, 1766. He died on January 13, 1788 in Perquimans County, NC.

Thomas Harvey was a delegate to the First Provincial Congress of August 1774 in New Bern; the Second Provincial Congress of April 1775; the Fourth Provincial Congress of April 1776 at Halifax; and, the Fifth Provincial Congress of November 1776 also at Halifax. He was elected to the NC Senate in 1786 and 1787, then to the NC House of Commons in 1788.
