On September 9, 1775, the NC Provincial Congress appointed Thomas Wiggins as 1st Major under Col. William Williams in the Martin County Regiment of Militia.

On April 24, 1778, the NC General Assembly appointed Thomas Wiggins as a Lt. Colonel under Col. Whitmell Hill in the Martin County Regiment of Militia, who had just been promoted himself, replacing Col. William Williams, who had resigned to take his seat in the NC Senate.

On August 12, 1778, the NC General Assembly appointed Thomas Wiggins as Colonel/Commandant over the Martin County Regiment of Militia, replacing Col. Whitmell Hill, who had resigned to take his seat in the Continental Congress in Philadelphia. Available records indicate that he retained this position until his death in 1782.

Thomas Wiggins, son of John W. Wiggins and Catherine Baker, was born c.1740 in Nansemond County, VA. He married Frances Brown on May 8, 1766. He died on September 28, 1782 in Martin County, NC.

Thomas Wiggins was a delegate to the Fourth Provincial Congress of April 1776 in Halifax.
