Willis Alston

Colonel over the Halifax County Regiment of Militia - 1776-1778

On April 22, 1776, the NC Provincial Congress appointed Willis Alston as Colonel/Commandant over the Halifax County Regiment of Militia, replacing Col. John Bradford, who had retired/resigned. Col. Willis Alston led a small detachment of the Halifax County Regiment of Militia at the battle of Moore's Creek Bridge on February 27, 1776, and at the battle of Fort Moultrie, SC on June 28, 1776.

Col. Willis Alston was Court-Martialed in 1778, and the NC General Assembly dismissed him on April 25, 1778. He was replaced by Col. Samuel Weldon.

Willis Alston was a delegate to the Fourth Provincial Congress of April 1776 at Halifax; and, the Fifth Provincial Congress of November 1776, also at Halifax.

Willis Alston was born in 1750, the son of Joseph John Alston.
