* Note - this man was in charge of the Public Factory at Harrisburgh in Granville County. Ostensibly, he was under Col. Nicholas Long (DQMG), a Continental officer, but he his not found on any Continental rolls. Very likely, he was only with the Granville County Regiment of Militia, assigned to coordinate with Col. Nicholas Long.

In 1781, he was promoted to Major, and many later pensioners mention serving under him at the Public Factory as a Captain and as a Major. Col. Nicholas Long did not get along with Capt./Maj. Batt Birdsong, so he moved the Public Factory and did away with Birdsong's involvement.
