* Note - there were two Captains in North Carolina with the name William Dennis.

This man was in the NC Continental Line, then in the Carteret County Regiment of Militia.

The other Capt. William Dennis was from Johnston County. Some men seemed to confuse the two, and there is a remote possibility that they are the same man.
