aka Howie Franklin Field Airport. Was Brunswick County Airport. Opened in May, 1961, it was a grass strip. In the early 1970s they ended up asphalting 4,000 feet of runway. In 2000, the airport runway was extended to about 4,300 feet. A decade later the runway was extended to 5,500 feet and later a taxiway was built next to the runway. Owned and operated by the Brunswick County Airport Commission.
