The Chesapeake & Albemarle Railroad operates from Edenton through Elizabeth City in North Carolina to Norfolk, Virginia – serving businesses in the northeastern North Carolina counties of Currituck, Camden, Pasquotank, Perquimans, and Chowan.

The company began operations in 1990 after leasing the line from Norfolk Southern Railway under the “Thoroughbred Shortline Program.” The Chesapeake & Albemarle Railroad is a member of the RailAmerica Inc. family of railroads headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida.

The company owns two locomotives and transports over 800,000 tons annually.
