The High Point, Randleman, Asheboro & Southern Railroad Company was organized December 6, 1887, under the laws of North Carolina. The road was opened to Asheboro, NC in 1889. The road is operated by the Richmond & Danville Railroad Company.
Norfolk Southern Railway Company (NSR) and High Point, Randleman, Asheboro & Southern Railroad Company (HPRAS), a majority-owned NSR subsidiary, have jointly filed a notice of exemption under 49 CFR 1152 Subpart F, Exempt Abandonments and Discontinuances of Service for NSR to discontinue service over, and for HPRAS to abandon, 1.5 miles of railroad between milepost M 0.0 and milepost M 1.5 in High Point, Guilford County, NC. The line traverses United States Postal Service Zip Code 27260, and includes the former station of High Point. Approved by the Surface Transportation Board on December 11, 2006.

From the 1st Annual Report of the North Carolina Railroad Commission, dated December 31, 1891:

The High Point, Randleman, Asheboro & Southern Railroad Company was organized December 6, 1888, under the laws of North Carolina, Acts 1887. The road opened to Asheboro, NC, 1889. The road is operated by the Richmond & Danville Railroad Company.

This company was chartered as the High Point & Randleman Railroad Company by the General Assembly in 1883, for the purpose of effecting a railroad communication between the towns of High Point and Asheboro. Its charter was amended by an Act of the General Assembly, ratified the 26th day of February, 1887, and the name of the company changed to its present name.
