In 1985, Gulf & Ohio Railways purchased this line from CSX Transportation, Inc.

The Nash County Railroad operates from Rocky Mount through Nashville to Spring Hope, serving shippers in Nash County in east-central North Carolina.

The company – owned by the Gulf & Ohio Railways of Knoxville, Tennessee – began operations in 1985 following purchase of the line from CSX Transportation, Inc.

Commodities carried by the railroad are grain, fertilizer, scrap metal, steel plates, and LP gas.

The Nash County Railroad owns four (4) locomotives and transports over 4,000 carloads annually.
