A standard gauge line that ran 12-1/2 miles from Sylva to East Laport, NC, the line had a franchise for a total of thirty-five (35) miles to Lake Toxaway, but that was never realized. The railroad depended on the business fortunes of the Blackwood Lumber Company to haul timber. Passenger service was inaugurated in 1922 with a Packard school bus equipped with flanged wheels. Local college students could ride for free. | |||||
With the closing of the Blackwood Lumber Company in 1945, the railroad ceased operations, and the track was soon removed for its salvage value. | |||||
