Evolution of Boundaries - With Known Towns & Villages

Charleston County ceded a significant amount of land for the creation of Berkeley County in 1882.

In 1897, it received some of the Berkeley County land back, as well as some land from Colleton County.

Its population increased from 57,480 in 1800 to 350,209 in 2010.
