Brigadier General Thomas Sumter resumed his command in early November at the request of Major General Nathanael Greene, and he moved towards Orangeburgh to continue operations in that area. A small force of Brigadier General Sumter’s Patriots encountered a larger force of Loyalists. A small skirmish broke out resulting in the rout of Brigadier General Sumter’s new command.
