Brief History of Regiment:

This regiment was the transformation of the existing Militia group known as Maham's Light Dragoons into a newly established regiment of South Carolina State Troops.

In March of 1782, after the debilitating defeats at Wambaw Bridge and Tidyman's Plantation on February 25, 1782, Lt. Col. Peter Horry's regiment was so decimated that the remains were folded in to Maham's regiment.

In August of 1782, Lt. Col. Hezekiah Maham was seized by Loyalists while sick at his own home. He was paroled but essentially out of action for the short remainder of the war. This unit was taken over by Maj. Daniel Conyers and soon went by the new name of SC State Legion since it now contained light horse and infantry.
