Established c.1940 as Lexington County Airport. In 1941, the United States War Department acquired the Airport from Lexington County and expanded it dramatically to serve the war effort. 1945, control given back to the county.

Unclear which name came first. The earliest depiction was on the January 1953 Savannah Sectional Chart, which showed a 2,100' unpaved runway. The 1957 SC Airport Director depicted Twin City Airport as having 2 unpaved runways, and listed the owner as Church of God.

A private sod strip, about 1,350 feet long ending in Lake Murray west of Columbia, SC. It’s very short, suitable for very light or STOL aircraft only. It is in Lexington County, SC on Frank Shealy Road, and interestingly, it made the USGS topo map, below. On the aerial view of the Lexington GIS system there are at least 5 partial airframes amidst the junk on this site. Info provided in January 2019 by CBB.
